Luther Fish

23 at the Beginning

Luther is a good old boy, a record store clerk, the leader of a rock band called “Owns Big Mecha”, and a devout Christian. But don’t worry, he usually votes Democrat. He is in a committed relationship with confirmed unbeliever and bad girl Edna, which causes him no end of guilt. He lives with Charlie and Rory, Barkey is his bass player, Yoshimi is his drummer, and Pastor Joe leads the church he used to go to before he met Edna.

Edna Slink

24 at the Beginning

Edna is a dance teacher, artist’s model and waitress. She has a penchant for petty crime, and is something of an exhibitionist. She has a good heart, though. She is a social butterfly, and has many friends, most especially Brandi, Eric, and Tabitha. She and Spiro have been knuckleheads since old times. She used to date Charlie. Verci is her dog.

Charlie Cane

23 at the Beginning

Charlie is a bitter, introverted cartoonist who makes a living as a bookstore clerk. He is a nerd who spends his free time drawing, playing D&D, and downloading pornography off the internet. He is in a rocky but passionate relationship with Brandi, and has emotional unfinished business with ex-girlfriends Edna and Mynah. He hangs around with high-school buddy Fenny, and lives with Luther and Rory.

Brandi Riggles

22 at the Beginning

Brandi is working on her Masters in philosophy, and plans to teach after she gets her Ph.D.. She used to work in the same bookstore as Charlie, who she later became friends, and then lovers with. She is grouchy and critical, with a sharp tongue, but is valued by her friends (such as Edna and Daniel) because of her integrity and her wit.

Bartholemew “Barkey” Klee

23 at the Beginning

Barkey is the bassist in Luther’s band, and also his close friend and confidant. He has a way with the ladies.

Yoshimi Leszek

21 at the Beginning

Luther’s drummer and co-songwriter. She was born in Japan, but spent most of her childhood in America. Yoshimi speaks fluent English, but has a curious aversion to the first person singular, which sometimes makes people think otherwise. She is very shy, and her Christian faith has a mystical bent. She recently married her childhood friend Paul. She works at the same used record store as Luther.

"Gospel" Joe Heath

39 at the Beginning

Luther’s former pastor. He is a good man, but is very conservative, and disapproves of Luther’s relationship with Enda.

Jesus Running Bear

26 at the Beginning

The towering front man of the rising indie Industrial band Moving Target. He admires Luther’s work, and is married to Ogla.

Edna's Friends

Spiro Gnu

24 at the Beginning

A talented young painter and snappy dresser whose homosexuality comes between him and his paleolithically conservative family. He and Edna have been friends since she pulled him out of church to help her shoplift at the age of fourteen.

Eric Bernal

32 at the Beginning

Portly Thelemite Eric Bernal made some canny investment choices when working as a web developer during the dot com boom of the 1990’s, and now lives a life of relative leisure, contracting from time to time when he needs a bit of extra money.

Tabitha Weiss

24 at the Beginning

Tabitha works traffic in an ad agency, and doesn’t seem to mind kissing other girls much. She secretly lusts after Eric, but is too afraid of ruining their friendship to tell him.

Vercingetorix

<1 at the Beginning

Verci to his friends, he is keenly interested chasing things, smelling things, peeing on things, and eating. He was recently neutered, but does not mind this, as it leaves him free to pursue his spiritual side.

Mynah Warren

23 at the Beginning

Myanh Warren is a professional photographer from the same town as Charlie and Fenny. Her first sexual relationship was with Charlie and ended in disaster when her preacher father discovered it. When they come back into each other’s lives as adults, this causes a great deal of trouble.

Phineas “Fenny” Damp

23 at the Beginning

A grad student in Physics at SCU, Fenny has recently renewed his childhood friendship with Charlie and Mynah. He is serious, good-hearted, and runs a mean role-playing game.

Olga Lyr

25 at the Beginning

Charlie’s childhood friend, she was a center of social life in Sordid City before she moved to New York City with her then boyfriend and later husband Jesus Running Bear. She is also close with Edna and Brandi.

Brandi's Friends

Daniel Forrest

24 at the Beginning

A handsome poet, slacker, skeeball counter clerk and part-time drug dealer who seeks to find as much pleasure and as little work in life as possible. He is enthusiastically bisexual, and currently in a not-very-serious relationship with Spiro. He hangs around with Brandi, both because he enjoys her company, and because he wants to get her into his bed.

Paul Leszek

21 at the Beginning

Paul met his wife Yoshimi in Bible Camp as a teenager. He is currently studying medicine.

Rory Allen

23 at the Beginning

Charlie and Luther’s other roommate, he doesn’t come into the story much, apparently because he works a lot. Poor guy.
